A good wool sweater can last decades if you treat it right. Here's how to wash, dry, store, and repair wool to keep it looking new.
Washing
Wool doesn't need to be washed after every wear, air it out instead. When it does need a wash, hand-wash in cool water with a wool-safe detergent. Avoid agitation; just gently press the suds through.
Drying
Never hang a wet wool sweater, it'll stretch. Roll it in a clean towel to remove excess water, then lay flat on a dry towel to dry. Reshape while damp.
Storing
Fold sweaters, don't hang them. Store with cedar blocks or lavender sachets to deter moths. For long-term storage, use breathable cotton bags.
De-pilling
Pilling is normal, especially in the first few wears. Use a sweater comb or fabric shaver to remove pills gently.
Repairs
Small holes can be darned. A repaired sweater is a loved one.
